On 11th February 2011, our school organized a trekking expedittion for the higher grade students. A total of 116 students and staff joined the trek. The busses took off from the school and left for the destination at 8.30am. We first halted at the famous Anjunem Dam at 10.15am. After sightseeing of the dam we left for Valpoi. From Valpoi we drove 12 kms to the interior village of Santrem. After refreshing ourselves with snacks and water, we began the trek at 12noon.
First we crossed a bridge which is partly wooden. It was exciting to seen the whole group crossing the bridge. We then decended into the stream which is full of slippery rocks and pebbles. At every moment of our journey we had the staff and students slipping and falling in the waters of the stream. It was quite risky for the elderly staff and volunteers who accompanied us, but nevertheless the whole team managed to reach the end point by 4.45pm. The children enjoyed swimming in the waters that were collected along the way. After have late lunch, we had enough time to race back to our starting point. On the way back we came through the forest. We managed to cross the forest before it became very dark. At 7.45pm we re-assembled at the main point where the busses were parked and took the journey home by 8pm.
The whole journey was really tiring but the children enjoyed the trekking. They will have sweet memories of the day for a long time to go.
