December 09 Report: Shanti Niketan School

On 1st December we had Ben & Nasta from France with Ben displaying various gimmicks, monocycle tricks, rope acrobatics etc for the children to enjoy. This was a two hour performance followed by the Google team which interacted with the children and distributed free cycles to them.

 

On 5th December some of the staff and monitors from the school attended seminar on leadership by Rachel Hickson.

 

Although Fantasia performance was over, Erica & Soniya trained them further during the weekend they were present in the school. Our children are now able to practice many things by themselves. 

 

On 22nd December the school organized Christmas Programme for the children. Ms Lorraine coordinated the entire show. Each of the groups came up with a wonderful skit and carols. Neptune group took the honours for the best skit presentation and also was adjusted the best group in the carol singing category. 

 

In the ‘Christmas Tree’ decoration competition, Jupiter group bagged the prize.The children had a wonderful time with the Christmas carols and danced all along. The programme started at 10am and concluded at 12.30 with the distribution of sweets and wishing one and all happy holidays.

 

On 7th December our students played football match with Dr Augusto School. We won the match by a margin of 2 goals to nil. Thanks to the efforts of our students and the P.E. Instructor Sushant. Students are also gearing up for the Sports Day to be held on the 28th of January at the SNS grounds.

 

As the tourist season is gaining momentum, we have our hand made crafts making children being fully occupied to make things ready for our flea market. Thanks to Peter and Frances Mattock for donating a lovely embroidery machine. Tailoring children will soon get acquainted to it.

 

The girls dance classes continued in the holidays as well. Mrs Priyanka taught them new steps along the way. Music classes were also conducted by the “Taught to Teach Music School” faculty.

 

Thanks to Christine for donating a lovely Yamaha keyboard for the school.

 

New staff recruited are Ms Sharmila Chodankar as a tailor & Mrs Shirley Kutty as our new supervisor.

 

Gillian, Neil, Emilie, Jessica and Christine volunteered in the school. Thanks to all of them.

 

 

On 19th December staff and children had a holiday on account of Goa Liberation Day. Children had Christmas Vacations from the 23rd of December till the 3rd of January 2009.
