A large number of children attended the Shelter and the slum school regularly in the month of December. The attendance of the children at the Shelter and the slum school gradually began to flourish. Many children have come back from their native villages thereby increasing the number of school children attending the Shelter.
Tuitions and other educational help were been provided to the children. Field workers organised games and other activities for the children and also assisted them in their studies. Medical help and assistance were also provided to the children in the slums. The slum dwellers were explained points related to the need for cleanliness and hygiene.
We have brought one girl named Laxmi at the Shelter & four more children in order to avail the Night Shelter facility. Presently five children are availing the Night Shelter facility. One boy named Vipul from our slum school had accidentally got burnt when he was only three years old, his arm is now totally ‘welded’ to his chest, he has slight movement in his fingers. He and his parents have asked El Shaddai to help for his free surgery and treatment. We can help this boy only through the support of our kind and generous Sponsors.
We have started two new slum schools this month at Saduband & Sirvodem. At present we are smoothly running a total number of 10 slum schools. Distribution of clothes & eatables to the slum dwellers and first aid programmes in the slums were conducted at regular intervals.
Networking was conducted in different places like Margao police station, Traffic cell, Government hospital authorities, Schools, Lion’s club, shops and beach areas. Networking was also conducted with different people having a high social status.
Beach programmes were held twice this month at Betalbhati beach and a fundraising counter for El Shaddai was put near the beach.
The children were also taken for a picnic to the Bondla Wild Life Sanctuary.
Many foreign visitors visited the Shelter and sponsored in cash or kind. Sandra (Sweden), C Fogg, Bhambra, (UK), Tony and his wife, K. Jobst, M. Lute, Katherina & Melina, Zoe & Paul, Mavis, Serena Deepak Patel (UK), Ralph James & family (UK), Brun, James Rushton & friends, Jennet, Smith & friends, Bhunder & family (Belgium) visited us.
Many local visitors visited the Shelter and donated clothes and eatables. Shreya Nadkarni celebrated her Birthday & donated snacks to the children. Geeta Rajputh donated chapattis regularly. Ashok Naik (Curchorem) & Mr. Ibrahim donated money & sponsored fish once in a week. Jilani & Sandesh donated vegetables once in a week. Rajesh Borkar donated few spices every month. Child Care School sponsored X-mas gifts for our children.
The Chief Minister of Goa, Mr Digambar Kamat visited the Shelter along with his wife and sponsored a day’s lunch for the children.
A Christmas party cum rally was organised on the 23rd of December. The staff and the children prepared and decorated the shelter for the Event. Around 350 children were present at the Shelter for the wonderful event & 75 guests attended the function. The event was sponsored by different people who have generously sponsored. A great response was received from the people.
These coming months we hope to give assistance to all the surrounding villages, construction sites, and other areas. We hope to reach out to the children in these areas who are waiting to be rescued.
