In the spring of 2009 two students and their teacher started a project called “Hoffnung Kindheit”, meaning “Hope for Childhood”. It all began when the teacher Andreas Kolb visited Goa on a holiday during Christmas and ended up at one of our Children’s Homes. He was so touched by stories of the children that he immediately resolved to do “something” about it. Back home in Germany, Andi and his team of two started by taking part in the local flea market in June as their first fundraiser. Some children donated some funds out of the sale of the school yearbook. As many more warmed up to the idea of supporting the poor, the group started to grow. For the next action Verena, Vanessa, Anna, Alina, Chiara, Johanna, Mariana and Ramona joined hands with Andi to put a stall for the local Christmas market. They were united in their love for the children taking refuge at El Shaddai India. The eight girls baked cookies and made wooden animals and sold them all at the market. As a result they earned £1160 which Andi personally handed over to the charity in Goa during Christmas 2009. Returning back to Germany this January, Andi enrolled Teena, his wife & Monika, their close friend into Hoffnung Kindheit. On March 11th 2010, they along with the other Friends of El Shaddai got together and founded the society “Hoffnung Kindheit e.V. – El Shaddai” in Germany. The incorporated society will support El Shaddai - Goa by fundraising, providing information and acting on behalf of El Shaddai for the German people. This society wants to encourage and animate people in Germany to support and contribute to El Shaddai in their goal to eliminate poverty in India. Let us wish Andi and team the very best.
