A Report on Highland Games from Sylvia McCosh.
in

Since visiting Goa about 12 years ago and having the good fortune of meeting Anita at the flea market, Jim and Sylvia McCosh have been keen to support El Shaddai by sponsoring children, raising money and spreading information about the charity. Both were thrilled when the regulars at their Walled Garden Caravan Park took El Shaddai to heart and set about raising money in all sorts of ways. Over the years
thousands of pounds have been sent to Goa to help with the funding of many great projects for the children. Last year Jimmy and Linda Roy suggested holding a ‘Highland Games’. This was so successful that in August this year The Walled Garden Caravan Park 2nd Highland Games was held.

With our Piper, John Bissett, leading the way the games were opened by Jim’s mum, Frances, and Anita, who had given a most interesting and moving talk the previous evening.

The sun shone and great fun was had by all whether taking part in the races, buying from Anita’s stall, splatting the tattie, cheering the tug-o-war teams on, hoping to win at the tombola, guess the Teddy’s birthday or the raffle, eating burgers, hot peas
or cup-cakes, throwing wet sponges at volunteers in the stocks, trying to beat the goalie, having your face painted or tossing the caber! At the ceilidh after the games the prize giving took place with Anita receiving her medal for winning the Grannies’ Dash!!  The Highland Games Committee with all their helpers had worked very hard to make this day a great success and they announced that £1600 had been raised plus the money raised by Anita at her stall.
