Highlights this month: The School re-opened after the Christmas Vacations on the 3rd of January 2011. We could see radiant faces of the children with fresh resolutions in their minds. The children were given the report of their progress made in the second term examination. We had many new ideas implemented for the final term. The teaching method of the lower classes was implemented in a creative way. Screening of an informative video once a week was put into practice. Classes started in Martial Arts for interested students. The audit of the school was conducted. A workshop was organized for the fieldworkers/teachers of all Shelters of El-Shaddai. On 28th January, UK Trustee Ruth Bealing was given a warm send-off with the gifting of a memento by Monali. HR Executive, Siddhi Naik gave a brief talk about Ruth and her valuable contribution towards the growth of the organization.

Martial Arts Classes:
Kung fu Instructor Mr Graham started his first batch training on Tuesday from 2-4pm at the school auditorium. A total of 54 students were enrolled in the batch. Mr Graham briefed them once again about maintaining discipline in the Kung Fu class.


Screening of Educational Video:  Once a week, preferably every Thursday, a video will be screened on Educational Information for all the children. This will be done during the afternoon hours when they have various activities going on. The children not involved in any of the activities will be enjoying the video. This week we had a National Geographic video on Coral Reefs (life under the sea).


Internal Audit of SNS: Internal audit of the School was conducted by Mr Agnelo & Ms Siddhi on Friday. It helped us to identify the areas we need to work for proper admin governance. They made a wonderful team together.
Pitch Black: The team from the Pitch Black project have completed their training for the students of SNS. A total of 51 students were involved in the training that started on 28th December 2010 to 6th January 2011. They have been trained in the Contemporary, Jazz and Classical dances to perform for their project which will be informed very soon.


Teacher's Training workshop:
Training workshop for shelter staff (Incharges & field workers) was conducted on 7th January at the SNS main auditorium. A total of 12 staff from the shelters viz, Little Acorns; Stepping Stones and Asha Deep along with the newly recruited teachers of SNS were involved in the training workshop. The workshop began at 10am and concluded at 2.30pm. Mrs Jenifer and Ms Mary L along with the director Julia Kurian coordinated the entire proceedings. It included demonstration of English and Math lessons along with the activities. Even the staff were involved in giving a demo in English and Math. The staff were given activity books along with other activities to practice at their shelters.


Sports, Art, Music & Dance: Sports classes were conducted regularly by Mr Valentino. Our team won an exhibition match with Union School defeating them 2-0. The match was played on Thursday at the Union grounds. In yet another match our boys played a 3 -3 draw against ‘Assagao Warriors’ on Monday 24th January. Music class in guitar was conducted by Mr Valerian on Wednesdays except on the Republic day.



Dance class was conducted on Saturdays by Mrs Priyanka Rane. On Thursday we also had Artist Dev Prasad re-starting his training classes with our budding artists. Miss Priya Petkar, Miss Salima Nalband and Mr Aslam Sheikh were given instructions on abstract painting by Mr Dev.


Handicraft Activities & Tailoring: Activities in tailoring, embroidery, artwork, painting, card-making and bead-making etc were held regularly this month. New dresses and items for display in the Twist boutique are being produced regularly. We also had new items displayed for the flea market shop.
The school had a holiday on 26th January on the occasion of India’s Republic Day. Volunteers Dean, Helen & Dianne were volunteering in the school this month. And have been involved in the school activities. The children are anxiously awaiting the next upcoming event - Trekking which be held in the Mid of February 2011.
