June seems to just appear magically every year with children getting taller, smarter and more wonderful. It’s great to see the children back and the staff & management extend a warm welcome to all of them. And although it’s heartbreaking to find some of the familiar faces missing, it’s also exciting to see the many new faces that have been added to bring the school strength to 250. We are sure the new students will soon make friends and grow up to be educated, informed and responsible citizens of India.
Mrs. Theresa Joseph, an experienced educator for the past many years, has joined as the Head Teacher, while Mr C.J.Madwalkar, with an experience of 39 years, has joined as the Physical Instructor. The freshly elected ‘School Council Squad’, headed by Master Sanju & Miss Sunanda, is also raring to go and will be responsible for the general discipline in the school.
To add more colour to the new academic year, the school has provided brand new sets of uniforms for all the children. The children are looking dapper & smart and they enjoy wearing the new colours.
We would also like to thank Karen Mills, our long time supporter and well-wisher, who helped raise money to build two new classrooms with a joint seating capacity of more than 60. Due to her large-hearted gesture more rescued children are now able to get an education at our school.

At Shanti Niketan, we like our children’s all round development. With this in mind we have developed the Vocational Training Centre. The centre provides skill development in weaving, tailoring, embroidery, knitting, card-making. This vocational program is based on the efficiency and interest of the students. Every student irrespective of their severity and disability is taught at least one trade.
We have also put in place The Sewing Project, which is specifically initiated for the girls. We have seven sewing machines in the centre, which are currently housed in the office premises. Four of these machines are donated by Mr. & Mrs. Mattock. We have 15 girls attending the tailoring classes under the guidance of the Tailoring Instructor. We need a separate classroom for this project.
We are delighted to report that our examination results this year have continued to consolidate and strengthen. We got 98% results in ‘A’ & ‘O’ Level examinations.

The Rotary club of Mapusa sponsored 2 brand new computers for the school. They are currently being used by the students. The company secretaries of India, Panjim office sponsored 50 chairs and 5 cupboards for the school.
The future is bright. SNS is working towards getting recognition as an Accredited Institute of National Institute of Open Schooling, which would facilitate better involvement and inputs from the Government of Goa. However, to turn this dream to reality, we need to setup the science laboratory for which we need significant funds.
Any accomplishments that we have made could not have been possible without you. Your continued support is essential to the success of our school and our community. Thank you one and all.
