Stepping Stones (August Update)

An average of 133 children visited the Shelter per day during the month. A regular field work, non-formal education and tuition classes were provided for the children. Field workers organised games and other activities. Children were also assisted in their studies. About seven children availed the night care shelter facilities.
Medical help was provided to the needy children in the slums. So also the need for cleanliness and hygiene was stressed among the slum dwellers. Two new slum schools have been newly started; currently around 10 slum schools are being run smoothly. Children were collected from the slums by the Shelter van and being dropped at the slum school and vice versa.                                     

Various activities were carried out for the benefit of the underprivileged. Clothes & Food distribution  as well as first aid programmes were held at regular intervals. A medical camp was also organised at KTC, Margao in collaboration with the urban centre, around 75 children were diagnosed at the camp. Networking was conducted with various schools, offices and clubs in order to spread the awarness regarding our charity.

Deepti, Stanly, Nitin, Anju, Shobha visited the ‘House of Norma’ in Assagao for the training of Community Health workers.
Laxman attended a workshop held at Miramar on ‘Right to Information’ conducted by an organisation named Unity.                        

Volunteer & Teacher, Dilshad Meghani regularly visited the Shelter. She conducted tuition classes for the children and helped them in their syllabus. In one occasion Dilshad visited along with her friend, Tazmin Massani from London. They interacted with the children and spent some time at the Shelter, they also donated a Mixer Grinder for the Shelter.

There were few foreign visitors who visited us and interacted with the children. Many local visitors visited the Shelter and donated sweets, clothes and eatables. Some of the regular sponsors are Geeta Rajput, Amit, Jilani & Sandesh and Rajesh Borkar. This month a visitor named Praneeta celebrated her daughter’s birthday at our shelter. She distributed cake and chocolates for the children. We are thankful to all our sponsors and wellwishers who have contributed in various ways towards our Shelter needs.
     
Vipul's second stage follow-up was done at Apollo hospital, Margao. Vipul has to undergo another minor surgery as mentioned by the Doctors. The Doctors at Apollo hospital informed that this operation has to be performed as soon as possible. The fee for the minor surgery will cost around Rs. 35,000/. This operation will be conducted at the Apollo hospital, Margao. We need sponsors who can give medical support to assist Vipul for his minor surgery and help him live a normal life.

In order to celebrate India’s 63rd Independence Day a rally was organised on 15th August. Around 350 street & slum children attended the gathering which was followed by a cultural programme. Many local people attended the function and also sponsored various requirements. Mr. Rajendra Azgaonkar, Margao Municipal Councillor was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Members of Lions club of Sanjeevene, Margao and various other NGOs and Clubs attended the programme. Snacks and lunch was provided for all the children.

Tasleema, Afshan and Safia were taken to hospicio hospital for checkups and tests. Safia (the smallest) and her mother were diagnosed with TB. The children have been admitted to the House of Norma and the mother is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
 

We hope to reach out to more and more needy children who are waiting to be rescued. These children are mostly found in slum areas, construction sites, railway stations and other such areas. Educating these children will help us to make a difference in their lives.
