This, our third Day Care and Night Shelter is situated in Calangute in the north of Goa. Tourism is the main source of income in this area and during the tourist season many families from the neighbouring states migrate to Goa, their children, who accompany them, are often sent out to work in the market. Many beg, others pick rags or rummage through bins for items that can be recycled and others may work as hawkers.

The lives of these children are dismal to say the least. The Fieldworkers from the Shelter spread awareness in the community so more and more children are referred to our care. Hundreds of children come to us for food, clothes and medical attention. Some come just because they are treated well and made to feel special.

Education is provided within the Shelter and at Don Bosco’s Formal School; they are provided with pencils, school bags, monsoon wear, school shoes and uniforms. Education is a tool that opens the door to a brighter future.
